Who could ever imagine abandoning a three-month-old puppy – much less in the middle of the woods with a severe skin condition caused by egregious human neglect? Fortunately, the puppy’s life was spared when hunters found her wandering in a forest of Fayetteville, Georgia over the weekend.
Dubbed Melanie, the 10-pound-puppy’s rescue was a collaborative rescue effort. As the hunters reached out to animal advocates, who in turn contacted Rescue Dogs Rock NYC, Melanie was rushed to the Fayetteville Animal Hospital where she is currently receiving expert care. Jackie O’Sullivan, co-founder of Rescue Dogs Rock NYC, provided details of the veterinarians’ initial examination of Melanie on the organization’s Facebook page Monday afternoon:
Melanie has a long and tough uphill battle. To help with her mounting medical care, donations can be made by clicking here. Her eyes are infected, and she was dehydrated. She has received her first soothing bath and is on antibiotics and medication. Please keep Melanie in your prayers. She is very weak and so very tiny; stumbling when she tries to walk. She needs us, and she needs all of you. We will keep you updated as the week progresses….. thank you.”
