For several years, Loki the Corgi, and his doting parents have blessed our timelines with adorable pictures of him, just being the friendly, outgoing, and cute dog he was to his over 600,000 Instagram followers. Sadly, Loki passed away yesterday after a year-long battle with a chronic kidney disease. Loki’s parents took to his Instagram account to announce the sad news saying,
“Loki is in a better place now. Away from sickness and away from pain. We’ll miss him forever.”
The happy go lucky pup was diagnosed with his condition a year ago, which led his parents to begin an active course of medical treatment to prolong his life. Unfortunately, over the past month, Loki had been feeling lethargic, even turning away his meals.
A GoFundMe page started for Loki read,
“He was brought to our family vet for a round of IV fluids the following day, and his blood work showed severely high levels of BUN and creatinine (the two main indicators of kidney disease). We were referred to the emergency hospital in Vancouver that night, where he received more IV fluids in attempt to treat his high levels.”
Unfortunately, the course of IV fluids did nothing to improve Loki’s health or his demeanor, and so his parents took him to the Seattle, Washington area where they put him on canine dialysis. Sadly, that did not work either.
Throughout his entire struggle, the legion of followers to Loki’s Instagram account sent him over $33,000 in donation to help pay for his costly hospital visits. Loki will be remembered most for his willingness to dress up in adorable costumes that kept people smiling and enjoying his gift that he gave us all who loved him. Rest in heaven loved one. 🌈
