Life at the high kill Carson Animal Shelter is no cakewalk for both staff and the dogs who occupy kennel space. For staff, they see things they wish the can unsee, and it is heartbreaking to say the least. One such case happened just a few days ago when a dog named Toto was being surrendered by an owner who came prepared, if we can call it that. Toto’s owners handed staff at the shelter food, instructions and a brief background on Toto before handing him off to staff, before briskly walking away.
Beforehand, Toto could be seen in a video crawling up to his former owners leg, as if to beg him not to make this fateful decision. His owner ignores him, refusing to make eye contact with the dog who had shown him so much loyalty over the years.
Yesterday, Carson Animal Shelter advocacy group Saving Carson Shelter Dogs, took to their Facebook page and wrote,
“It was very hard to watch TOTO being surrendered because it was like he knew exactly what was happening and after the camera was off he continued to try and climb up his old dad’s leg begging him not to do it.”
According to Saving Carson Shelter Dogs, Toto’s owner said he was a “vocal” dog who was too loud for him to contain anymore. He had given up, and instead of surrendering him to a no kill facility, he dumped him at Carson, where he might have less than a week to live if he doesn’t successfully find a home.
Toto deserves a second chance and if you or someone you know is interested in providing this precious pup the forever home he rightfully deserves, please contact the Carson Animal Shelter at (310) 523-9566 and reference the shelter ID #A4993771.
Additionally, please share this story on Facebook or Twitter so we are closer to finding Toto the forever home he rightfully deserves. We have done it before and can certainly do it again.
