Alleged Puppy Abuser Smiles Wide in Mugshot

A man with a wide smile in his Transit Police mugshot was arrested for abusing his dog Monday.

John Bowen, 46, of Boston, allegedly punched his 11-month-old Husky named Sarah while at North Station’s Commuter Rail. He was also seen allegedly “kneeling on the dog in a forceful manner and lifting the dog off the ground by [its] leash,” witnesses told police.

Transit officers say they confirmed the witnesses’ reports with video surveillance and arrested Bowen for cruelty to animals. He will be arraigned Tuesday.

Bowen was held on $5,000 cash bail, which was revoked on an unrelated Malden case.

Sarah was placed into the custody of City of Boston Animal Control and brought to Angel Memorial for evaluation.
