Dispute over dog turns into shootout in neighborhood

AN ANTONIO — SAN ANTONIO – A man was shot in the hand and stomach and taken to the hospital Friday night after three people walked up to his home at I-35 and North Olive Street and fired several rounds at him.

According to authorities, the man found a dog near Southcross Boulevard on the city’s South Side earlier in the day, took the dog home with him and the dogs owners — two men and a woman — came by the man’s home to reclaim the dog.

The trio left the man’s house, but returned later and started to shoot at the man who was sitting outside of his home.

The man grabbed his own weapon and began firing back at the group, police said.

Police are not sure how many rounds were fired, however, shell casings were scattered throughout the street where the shooting occurred.

The group left the scene separately, one on a motorcycle, one in a truck and one on foot, authorities said.

All three were eventually arrested in the 400 Block of Kathy Street near Southcross Boulevard.

The victim was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
