A paralyzed, young German shepherd puppy, just three months of age, was abandoned last week alongside a road in western Washington. The pup, dubbed “Heidi,” was picked up by a good Samaritan and taken to a rescue agency for care.
Heidi’s rescuers, Sunny Sky’s Animal Rescue in Puyallup, began to work with her and noticed that she appeared to have some ability to move her tail and rear legs…there was hope that with rehabilitation, she could become mobile. But things took a sudden turn for the worse.
On Monday, the rescue agency wrote:
We have an urgent plea for Heidi, the 3 month old paralyzed puppy that came into our rescue last week. Her situation recently took a turn for the worse and she no longer has any movement or sensation to her hind legs. An MRI is urgently needed to see if there is a chance of restoring her ability to walk, whether through surgery or ongoing medical care.
The plea for financial help was answered and by Tuesday, all but $600 of the necessary funds were raised. The agency updated Facebook followers:
We can’t thank our amazing supporters enough for all the donations received for Heidi’s care! Heidi has an MRI scheduled for tomorrow morning, and we’re hoping to be able to raise the rest of the initial funds before then! We are only $600 away!
